Hot Jazz Club in Münster, Germany

by DeAndre

With only 3 short rehearsals under our belts, we departed for what we thought was going to be Amsterdam. But what we understood was going to be a direct flight to Holland, was actually three flights with Frankfurt, Germany as our final destination. We flew from Seattle to Chicago, Chicago to Philadelphia and from Philly to Germany. After all the flying, it was a 3 hour drive to a small....no, let me rephrase that...to a TINY little town by the name of Senden. We checked into a quaint little hotel amidst what I assume were fields of corn. This was the German Countryside.

Almost exactly 24 hours of travel, shower and rest. Today is the first show and luckily we're off to a slow and easy start. We arrive at the Hot Jazz Club in Münster, Germany hours before we actually start. The "sound check" turns into a rehearsal that I felt I needed badly but I'm always my own worst critic. It is now 7:45pm. We are slated to begin at 9:10. I try not to show the other, more seasoned band members how nervous I am. As Chiwoniso painstakingly tunes her mbira, I can feel the pressure in the pit of my stomach.
